My kid is hiiiiilarious!

Zaia is turning out to be a total ham. She loves to make loud noises/screeches/laughs/babbles and then look at us and grin or laugh. She totally knows she’s funny!

tomorrow I’ll do a post of photos, but today is about video.

I love this age (didn’t i say this a month ago?). She’s so much fun! and she makes us laugh regularly.
She’s still into the foot eating, the talking and she’s just started rice cereal! She’s not sure what she thinks of the solid food thing.. she varies between outright rejection and grinning and opening her mouth wide for the spoon.

Zaia Bee is a tripod!

So Zaia has rolled from front to back a few times, but it was awhile ago and she hasn’t done it again. and there’s still no back to front rolling. BUT…she can do this! (if only for 10-20 seconds at a time before she falls to the side)

4 months old!

Zaia Bee is 4 months old and she’s such a little person!

and yea yea, I know. I suck at this mama blogging thing. The community of mama bloggers would never accept me. Funny from someone who used to blog multiple times a day years ago! oh well.

I can promise to try to be better. uh huh.

anyway, way more interesting than my excuses and apologies. The baby herself! She’s just home (napping) from her 4 month checkup. She’s 26 1/4 inches tall (96th percentile!) and 14 lbs 8 oz (65th percentile!). A normal weight and TALL baby!

She’s really wishing she could walk. One of her favorite things is to stand (assisted) and move her feet forward. She also does a lovely swimming motion during tummy time, that I think is a precursor to crawling. She can push off on my hand if it’s at her feet in this position. She also does marvelous crunches and seems to have abs of steel. She can’t wait to sit up!

She spends lots of time yelling (happily), talking, grunting, groaning and moaning in hilarious manner ,and smiling. She is still not predictable as to when she will laugh,  but the laughs are coming more and more often. She loves Itsy Bitsy Spider and If You’re Happy And You Know It.

I’m taking her to her first Gymboree class on thursday because she just seems really ready to watch other babies, learn more songs, and take part in social stuff.

She’s gone to the mountains on a ski trip with other kids (and whenever I want to assuage my fears that she’s growing too fast, I can look at the photos and see her tiny self next to the big kids and feel better!), visited carmel again, and hung out at Tumble & Tea (a coffee/lunch place with a huge play room for kids .. including story times and puppet times, etc)

Her personality is blossoming every day and it’s a good natured, silly, goofy little girl that she’s becoming. I think she knows she’s funny.. as evidenced by the sly little half-smile she often does.

Over 3 months - out of the ‘4th trimester’

Zaia has been such a good natured happy baby. She’s mostly mellow, smiley and focused on everything around her. She has taken to whining a lot though. I rarely can tell what it is that’s bothering her and I think she is just requiring a lot more interaction.

We get out of the house with either the stroller, or more frequently her sling. We go to the farmers market, to the park and sometimes she accompanies me on adult outings for oysters to the nearby oyster happy hour.

She is talking a little less but blowing more bubbles and watching my mouth when i talk or take a drink of something.

Her favorite things are still the giraffe over her changing table & the animals on the wall next to her bed. Otherwise watching my face is her favorite thing. She loves to watch people sing or talk or make faces at her.

She’s sleeping consistently great and I’m rarely overly sleep deprived.
She gets a little overwhelmed with too much stimulation. We went to my old job so everybody could meet zb and after a little while she had a mini melt down… but she does love people.

I’ve been so bad at updating this blog, I would like to make a commitment to do it at least once a week!

I don’t want Zaia to get any bigger!! she’s so delightful right now. She is alert, cuddley and smiles tons. She is rarely unhappy (she has an occasional two-day fussmaster time every few weeks. i think it’s growth spurts) and can entertain herself (or me) for long periods of time.

She sits in her boppy and smiles at me (which she’s doing right now). she loves to be in her sling.. whether sleeping or facing outward and watching the world as we go to the farmers market or store.

She watches her mobile with fascination for up to an hour.. and coos and giggles.

and she spits up like you would not believe. it recently got a bit worse. but she doesn’t seem to mind, so i try not to…although it’s a challenge to avoid having to change my own clothing as well as hers!

things she currently loves: hugo her giraffe mobile (over her changing pad), being naked on her changing pad, the dragonfly in her mobile, her binky, smiling at us, eating, and the stick-on mural on her wall.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas, everybody! Please note that we have been updating flickr even when not updating the blog. I will post a few here, but there are a LOT more on flickr.

Zaia is already a different baby than she was just last week! She’s holding her neck up, she’s alert and awake and happy and smiles constantly. She likes to sit on ones lap facing outward so she can check out everything going on around her.
She is sleeping beautifully about 90% of the time, and wakes up happy.

She had a lovely christmas in carmel with my family and another great christmas on christmas day with hans’ family. Charming everybody and getting lots of cuddles.

She got her first view of the ocean, but I don’t think she even noticed! :)

We find out on tuesday how much weight she’s gained. She is getting very solid and huggable. No longer a breakable feeling newborn.

Today we went for a walk in our new baby-wearing jacket… it was a sunny crisp wintery day.

This year we’re experiencing true winter (california style, at least). We need space heaters and are thinking about weatherizing the windows. Last year was much warmer!

7 weeks!

Zaia is almost 2 months old! She’s showing her age too. She’s much more alert, interactive, smiley and easy to please.
She’ll sit in her swing or vibrating chair and just look around happy and content for up to half an hour. She’ll sit on my lap and watch the world around her or smile up at me.

She’s had the sniffles for the past few days and she isn’t loving that, but for a baby with a cold she’s remarkably good natured about it.

Last night we took her to a restaurant for the first time and she was so good! She sat on my lap and watched everybody. She slept a bit in her stroller. She was just so interested in what was going on around her.

I find myself not really caring about christmas this year. Normally I definitely love presents.. but this year I guess I feel like I already got my present. How sappy. Don’t tell her I said that when she’s a teenager!
